Yes, to add significant home extensions to your property, you must obtain a council permit issued by the registered building surveyor. This is the last step in the process before building commences. Otherwise, if you’re adding elements such as flood overlays or heritage overlays to your home, you may need to get council approval. This is called planning permission.
In most cases, our clients can stay in their homes while we add extensions to the home. However, if there are safety concerns regarding entering major areas of the home, such as the bedroom, kitchen or bathroom, you may need to find temporary accommodation elsewhere.
